Help us feed Westport's hungry.

Temple Israel's annual Spring Food Drive kicks off on March 1. The initiative  benefits Homes with Hope Food Pantry. Please consider donating from this list of suggested non-perishable foods. Collection bins will be located at the Religious School entrance March 1-31.

Donate and Serve a Meal for the Gillespie Center

Tuesdays at 4:45 pm 

The Gillespie Center is a shelter in downtown Westport, which serves the Westport homeless population. Temple Israel has committed to serving dinner every Tuesday night. Help us fulfill our commitment by volunteering to prepare and serve meals on Tuesday nights. Please provide a main dish and side dishes that can serve 35 people. Suggestions for a main dish include chicken, fish or pasta and suggestions for a side dish include salad, vegetables or rice. Meals should be dropped off at 45 Jesup Road in Westport by 4:45 pm and will be served at 5:00 pm. Sign up to volunteer.



 Refugee Family Assistance

Temple Israel and the Westport Interfaith Council have committed to resettline a refugee family in our community. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to help them settle into a new home, learn English, find medical professionals and navigate the school system. If you are interested in volunteering for this mitzvah, please email


Volunteer with the Bridgeport Public School District

Reading Enrichment
30 minutes weekly or monthly
Read aloud to students in Pre K-6 grade and discuss the book with the class. 
Book Buddies
60 minutes weekly or monthly
Listen to elementary age children read as they read aloud and give them help as needed. 

Reading or Math Tutors
60 minutes weekly 
Work one-on-one or with small groups of elementary and middle school students under the guidance of teachers who provide directions and materials to reinforce skills. 

60 minutes weekly during lunch
Get paired with a child, so that he or she can have a consistent and caring adult in his or her life. Mentor activities include talking with your child, working on school work or projects, or playing games. Mentors are asked to give a two year commitment.
